Here we go!
It's time to begin another summer of travel. I chose this title because we'll be going on various short trips - in all directions!
APRIL
The first one was a two-night trip to Hinton and Jasper with our daughters and our grandchildren, aged 3 months to 5 1/2 years. It was a lot of fun to spend time in the mountains, but probably the little ones' highlight was the pool at the hotel!
MAY
The next trip, was back in our RV heading for points south.
When you have traveled down Highway 2 between Edmonton and Lethbridge countless times it doesn’t seem like it’s a start of a vacation trip. Even stopping in Nanton for lunch with Paul and Mavis Prevost, who will travel with us in their own unit, doesn’t seem like we’re quite on a vacation trip yet.
SHELBY
Somehow, we had a miscommunication and each of us ended up
at different campgrounds. Thanks for
walkie-talkies as we got that sorted and stayed at the Lake Sheloole Campground together. It was a basic little park nestled in the valley just below the dam on Lake Sheloole. Because it was cold and windy, supper was inside the trailer, with
whatever groceries we had brought across the line. Tomorrow we would stock up on fresh
foods.
We were set up right beside this big cottonwood tree. No leaves yet. It is, after all, the 6th of May. |
Shelby is a sleepy little farm and railway service town
hidden in a valley on the treeless prairie.
After a grocery run, a good coffee from a little roadside coffee stand,
we were on our way. This would be
another longer driving day.
CASCADE
Paul & Mavis and us make a good team as we all enjoy exploring small towns, looking for the perfect café for a bite to eat. The Angus Bar fit the bill. It was a local western bar and café where, when you walked in, you knew that they knew that you weren’t from around here! We ordered our lunch. Did you know that a Reuben sandwich without sauerkraut is called a Virgin Reuben? Yup, that’s what the guys ordered
