Since we’d been in Newfoundland for a couple of days and we still hadn’t seen a moose, I’d bought a stuffed moose, and called him Seamus (Shay-moose).
Then we saw one in the ditch munching on the bushes just as we left the L’Anse aux Meadows Park. Cool.
Then we saw one ----- hit our truck. Yup, we had the true Newfoundland experience. It was raining, the road was slick, and the moose just kept on coming out of the bush even though I yelled at it to stop.
We stopped to check what happened. The moose got up, shook off hundreds of flies
and ambled back into the bush. “He
didn’t even apologize!” said Dave. The
truck suffered a broken headlight and a few more dents on the hood. It was still driveable so on we went to Port
au Choix as planned.
The next morning, Dave began looking into getting the truck repaired. The one Auto Body said, “You can drive it fine until you get home to Fort McMurray!” I guess with our Alberta plates that’s the assumption!
King’s Point
We weren’t feeling the greatest and were somewhat off our
stride after the Moose Encounter so we decided to find somewhere to hibernate
for a while. We were making our way
across to the eastern side of Newfoundland, when we suddenly felt done for the
day. We looked on AirBnB and within an
hour we had a place in King’s Point.
What a beautiful spot to sit and do nothing much for a bit. It was just what we needed.
In this Come Home 2022 year, it seems there's been a budget for sprucing up the waterfront fishing sheds and adding other attractive features in the little villages.
Almost at the end of the road from King's Point, at Rattling Brook, was a short waterfall hike. It was a beautiful walk through the forest. Imagine the tenacity of the tree to grow its roots around a huge boulder.
Wow! Glad you are safe after your moose encounter! Enjoy your exploration of Newfoundland! I'm jealous as that was where my friend and I were planning on going before.... you know what happened in 2020!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Seamus is cute!!
