Amharic

Today had the same routine as the past few days:  I get picked up by bajaj to go help Andrea with her work and then later on Dave gets picked up by a university vehicle to go teach his course.

The boys have been in the program for two months so it was a day to celebrate.  They got new hoodies, enjoyed delicious food, watched a movie (Rio), tried their hand at drawing a cartoon picture of Blu and played some soccer.  We had a lot of fun hanging out together.

Later in the day I was to tutor a student at the Ireland's home.  While waiting for him, I found a book on learning Amharic.  I don't think it's an easy language to learn!

Amharic is the official language of Ethiopia.  The alphabet or fidel, consists of 33 characters, each of which is modified in 7 different ways, resulting in 231 fidels.  That looks very complicated.  I love the look of the characters and the book explained how to draw them. I tried drawing a few, but I have no idea what it says.  (Hopefully nothing terrible...)

Dave had another good day of teaching.  The students wanted to have a class on Saturday, but he wasn't too sure about that.  A weekend break will be good.

Koka Kola

The name of the boat we rode on last Sunday.

The barber shop we stopped at yesterday.

This was my attempt at the fidel.

As we continued on our travels, we had a few expensive adventures with repairs needed to truck and trailer.  Ouch.  As one sign I saw said:...
