As I mentioned in the initial post I didn't really have a plan for my time in Ethiopia. I'd done some digging around on the internet and found a blog by Andrea and Jeremy who were doing some mission work in Bahir Dar, but the story ended in 2016. Would they still be there? I finally decided to try to e-mail and the response was '"call me when you get here". So I did and here we are.
Andrea is running a program for street boys to help them get off the street. The program includes a Bible lesson, sports, Amharic, Math and English classes, life-skills and a meal. The more hands on deck, the better so I got plugged in to help right away. I spent some time teaching the English alphabet to one of the boys. When he couldn't process any more, I asked him to teach me the Amharic numbers. Let's see.... aund, oolet, sost....
Our hotel room in the BenMas Hotel is a comfortable room on the fourth floor, facing away from the street noise. That being said, we still haven't been able to sleep too well for night noises and jet-lag. Hopefully that will change soon.

The program is only for street boys? Are not there street girls?
ReplyDeleteIt's very good, these boys can learn English.
