Football

Today was an exciting day in Bahir Dar.  It was hosting an international football (soccer) match between Ethiopia and Kenya.  Dave's afternoon class was pushed to the morning as all classes would be cancelled in the afternoon.  Game time: 4:00.

As the day progressed the volume of eastbound traffic in front of our hotel gradually increased. We were on the street leading to the stadium.  Dave needed to find a computer store and so we called a baja (tuk-tuk) and ventured out, unaccompanied, to the shopping district.  Because of the game, the most direct route was block so our driver found all sorts of side roads and by-ways only to find the store in question was closed.  A football fan, I'm sure.  It's hard to capture in pictures the rows upon rows of shops selling everything you could possibly need. Each shop is no bigger than a hole in the wall, with big steel doors to close it up for night.
We returned to the hotel and at dinner sat on the patio.  By now the game was over and now we watched all the traffic heading west.  Truck boxes full of people, mini-vans with the roof racks full of people, the east-bound lanes half full of pedestrians with the other lane filled with bajas returning to collect more passengers.  It was a joyful crowd despite the tie score.
